It’s one of the most asked questions, “can women be pastors?” This is the wrong question. The question is, “can anyone be a Pastor?”
The word Pastor means, ‘Shepherd’. A shepherd watches over sheep and goats. If we analyze what Jesus, YHWH, and the prophets say, we see Jesus is our only Shepherd and Pastor. As a matter of fact, Jesus is also our only teacher,
Matthew 23.8,10 “For ONE is your teacher, The Christ…For ONE is your teacher, The Christ”.-Jesus
1. Jesus detailed who he would send, and he didn’t mention Pastors or Teachers.
Matthew 23:34 KJV Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and [some] of them ye shall kill and crucify; and [some] of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute [them] from city to city:
2. The prophets said YHWH was sending one Shepherd / Pastor.
Ezekiel 34.23 And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, [even] my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd.
Ezekiel 37.24 And David my servant [shall be] king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.
3. The prophecy told to Joseph was though his lineage a Shepherd would come. Jesus is a descendant of Joseph.
Genesis 49. 24 But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty [God] of Jacob; (from thence [is] the shepherd, the stone of Israel:)
4. Jesus at the Judgment, is the Shepherd:
Matthew 25:31-33 KJV – When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
5. The prophecy of Jesus being taken away from the disciples. Compare these verses:
Zechariah 13:7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man [that is] my fellow, saith the Lord of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.
Matthew 26:31, 56 KJV – Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. … 56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
Mark 14:27, 50 KJV – 27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered. … 50 And they all forsook him, and fled.
6. Jesus assuming the role of a Shepherd:
Mark 6:34 KJV – And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
